Educational organisations face complex challenges to stay relevant in the twenty-first century and beyond.  Administrators must lead by building, inspiring, and sustaining a culture of continuous learning, inquiry, and student agency as they use technology.


The ISTE standards for Administrators guide school leaders to effectively implement digital age learning that develops creative and innovative learning environments to support diverse student needs.  Using these standards as a guide, school leaders can facilitate the use of technology that enriches the curriculum and transforms the learning goals.  Leaders need to empower teachers and students to develop the skills necessary to maximise the use of digital devices to enhance learner outcomes.

Scott McLeod and Jayson W. Richardson discuss various ways that administrators can support an innovative environment in the article, Supporting Effective Technology Integration and Implementation.  They highlight the importance of keeping student learning the focus.  The integration of technology should enhance the curriculum.  They discuss the importance of creating opportunities for students to have autonomy using technology tools.  For their learning to be meaningful, students must have ownership of their learning experiences.
